Newcomer to Mudgee, Michael Foster’s Works on Paper at Fairview ArtSpace opened last night (April 11 and runs to May 14). It’s an exhibition not to be missed. There are 28 works on display (with apparently some others on display, or coming, to High Valley and Blue Wren) that show Michael’s talents as both artist, photographer and printmaker. Some of them bring to mind the work of the early pictorialist photographer/artists of the Nineteenth century, but with a very contemporary approach and use of modern techniques. He uses acrylic paints, pastels, charcoal and pen an ink to enhance, rework or replace the photographic image to present strong and deceptively simple works.
